A new home for Tropida, and a better one.<\/strong>

When I first started running cruises out of Rhodes Marina, it made sense. Central, well known, easy to find. But anyone who has tried to leave from there on a busy summer morning knows what it feels like. Queues, noise, other boats everywhere, and you have already lost the mood before you even reach open water.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

So I moved south, to Plimmiri. Quieter, more remote, closer to Prasonisi. It was a good base and I have great memories from there. But the routes I really wanted to run, out west toward Chalki, Alimia and Symi, were long from the south. The crossing made sense but the timing was always tight.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Kamiros Skala changed everything.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It sits on the west coast of Rhodes, a small and unpretentious port that most tourists drive past without stopping. There is a taverna by the water, a couple of fishing boats, and on a clear morning you can already see the outline of Chalki from the dock. That is where we are now, and honestly I would not go back.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The routes from here are natural. Chalki is close. Alimia is just beyond it. Symi, with a stop at Panormitis along the way, is a full day that actually feels complete rather than rushed. And as you leave the port heading west, on a good day you might see dolphins moving along the coastline. It happens more often than people expect out here.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The area around Kamiros Skala has its own quiet character too. There are tavernas nearby where you can eat simply and well, the kind of places that have been there for decades and have no interest in changing. A few kilometres up the road are the ruins of Ancient Kamiros, one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes and far less visited than Lindos. If you are making your way here for a cruise, it is worth arriving early and walking through the site first.<\/p>\n
